Hosting program reviewed relating to the study of "Revision of the Marine Pollution Control Act”

The Sub-Committee of the Social Committee at the State Council responsible for studying the review of the Marine Pollution Control Act promulgated by Royal Decree No. (34/74) on Tuesday, April 16, held its first meeting, headed by Hon.Dr. Hamed Sulaiman Al-Salmi, Head of the Social Committee in the presence of the honourable members of the Committee. During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the proposed hosting of individuals and the topics to be discussed with them. The State Council at its Regular session held on April 2, had approved the study of the proposal submitted by the Social Committee to amend the Law on the control of Marine Pollution promulgated by Royal Decree No. 34/ 74.
This denotes the need created by the huge volume of developments that have accelerated over the last four decades, in security and environmental safety. This necessitates keeping up of the domestic legislations with the developments that happened due to the laws, conventions and protocols signed by the Sultanate after 1974, and the adoption of appropriate legislative orientations to contain the conditions caused by environmental pollution and to work continuously to adopt the appropriate legislative directions to contain the conditions resulting from environmental pollution.
This legislation is related to the control and prevention of pollution in the marine environment. The proposal aims to review the articles of the Marine Pollution Control Act promulgated by the Royal Decree No. (34/74) with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (114/2001), and take advantage of international and national efforts and updates in the laws relating to marine pollution to reformulate and amend the articles of this law, and to come up with the appropriate recommendations and proposals that contribute to the strengthening of marine pollution control.
